Amazing Skincare Essential Oils You NEED + An Anti-acne Dropper Recipe!

I first joined Young Living as a wholesale member last year around August. I joined with the intention of finding some oils to help calm my extremely hyperactive little man DOWN. I had NO intention of taking the business seriously… I was just on a quest for HELP.

Over the last year, I have learned SO MUCH. I’m still not high up in the company as far as being a seller is concerned… but I’ve taken my sweet time trying to learn my stuff. I’ve tried SO MANY products and combos and I’ve come to learn which ones I truly and honestly love and which products our family can easily do without.

You see, I’m not one to jump onto bandwagons and sell just for the hope of bringing in an extra few bucks. I actually have spent FAR MORE than I’ve made – all in the name of learning the products. I purchased the Essential Oils Desk Reference book and HOLY MOLY, people. BUY THIS BOOK. If you are interested in learning ALL OF THE THINGS about oils – this is the holy grail of information about them.

Like I said, there are products I don’t care for… like the makeup. I know people who SWEAR by the makeup. I’ve tried it and just haven’t fell in love with it.

Just because I don’t care for the coverage the YL makeup provides… I DO love the way that the oils take care of my skin. HOLY MOLY.

My annoying Skin

To give you the DL about my skin… I’m basically a 30 year old with aging skin that behaves like it’s a hormonal 13 year old.

–> Insert really annoyed face HERE. <–

EVERYTHING seems to cause my face to break out. Red food coloring? PIMPLES. Period around the corner? BREAKOUT. Ovulating? BOOM. RED DOTS EVERYWHERE.

Let’s not forget to mention my diet. If I try to enjoy the yummy things in life on a regular basis – carbonated beverages, fried foods, processed foods, sweets… my face is a disaster.

I’m also on a zillion different medications for my chronic migraines, allergies, and severe acid reflux ~ all of which cause my skin to do crazy things.

So, what’s the research??

Referring back to this INCREDIBLE BOOK I was talking about earlier… I dug DEEP into reading about all of the ways that oils can help my skin without completely breaking my bank. What I mean by that is… some of the oils that the book talks about, and let’s face it… they’re probably the most effective… are WHOA expensive. Like, I’m not going to spend that kind of money to try it out and it FAIL when there are other oils out there I can try first.

I hope you like my thought process here. 🙂

I’m going to go through the oils that I AM TRYING and talk about what the book says about them and then I’ll mention a few other oils that the book talks about that are like **hello** expensive. (But that I’d love to try one day!)

  • Orange
    • Orange is said to be used for complexion and wrinkles!
    • It has an uplifting fragrance that is an antidepressant – so that’s a bonus for using it every morning/evening on your face!
    • This information is found in the Essential Oils Desk Reference page 118.
  • Frankincense
    • Frankincense is used for inflammation – which is one reason why I love smearing it all over my acne inflamed face!
    • Frankincense also has medical properties as an antidepressant and a muscle relaxant.
    • THIS IS MY FAVORITE ESSENTIAL OIL. I seriously love this smell and all of its benefits. At first, I didn’t love the smell but over time, it has grown on me and it is a must-have at all times.
  • Tea Tree
    • In my opinion, tea tree oil doesn’t have the greatest SMELL of all the oils (but it is NOT as terrible as citronella! I’ll talk more about that later 😉 )… but it is one POWERFUL little oil!
    • The medicinal properties are incredible. To name a few relating to skin care {picked from the Essential Oil Desk Reference Book}: Powerful antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory!
    • All of the above properties make it excellent for fighting acne!
    • This information is found in the Essential Oils Desk Reference page 133.
  • Roman Chamomile
    • If I’m being real I’ll tell you that I did not run across this oil initially because of the skin healing qualities… it was the big fat ADHD written on the “Uses” section in the Essential Oils Desk Reference book. Of course, it caught my eye for my little guy. This oil is also used for the treatment of skin conditions such as acne, dermatitis, and eczema.
    • This information is found in the Essential Oils Desk Reference page 125.
  • Lavender
    • I don’t know ANYONE who doesn’t love to relax with some delightful smelling lavender diffusing nearby. Ugh. This oil is one of the best smelling out there. It also fights acne + is affordable!
    • This information is found in the Essential Oils Desk Reference page 104.
  • Oregano
    • So… I had this one on as part of a trial serum that I was playing around with and I had it WAY TOO STRONG. I took my little guy to his school and one of the parapros was all “SOMEONE SMELLS LIKE PIZZA… WHO SMELLS LIKE PIZZA THIS EARLY IN THE MORNING??” me. i do. {while hiding around the corner}
    • Oregano is a powerful anti aging oil!
    • NOTE: Oregano is a HOT oil. This one doesn’t need to be put directly on the skin without being diluted and EVEN SO, test it lightly first. The first time I used it on my face I put WAY TOO MUCH and it burned!!! I diluted it better the next time and that helped tremendously.
    • This information is found in the Essential Oils Desk Reference page 118.
  • Manuka
    • I haven’t tried this one yet… but it’s an affordable oil for acne! It’s on my wish list and I can’t wait to try it soon! The beauty benefits seem endless when reading the Essential Oil Desk Reference guide on page 109-110!

High Dollar Beauty Oils that I’m DYING to try

I promised I’d talk about the more “high dollar” oils that are out there for aging and acne… so here they are! I’m not going to add these to the recipe at the end of this post – but I am writing about them so that you will be informed. There is always a chance that I’ve missed an amazing anti-aging or acne oil in my research. If you feel like you’ve used one that I’ve missed – please let me know!!! I’d love to try it out!

  • Rose {wrinkles, acne}
    • Wholesale: $191.00
    • Retail: $251.32
      • UGH I want to try this one so bad! Actually, I want to try all of these. However, my husband would not – at this moment – be okay with me trying that price tag!
  • Neroli {wrinkles}
    • Wholesale: $106.75
    • Retail: $140.46
    • I’ve heard that this oil smells heavenly! Many people have used this oil as perfume!
  • Myrrh {wrinkles}
    • Not nearly as expensive as Rose or Neroli… but still a hefty price tag!
    • Wholesale: $66.75
    • Retail: $87.83

An Acne/Anti-Aging Oil Recipe with a headache preventive additive option!

I suggest starting with the amount listed. If this works for your skin, you can make more based on the amounts listed below.

Ingredients:

I have not tried any of the skincare products that Young Living has to offer. Because my skin is really sensitive to EVERYTHING, I find what works and stick to it. My Skincare regimen is as follows –

To apply, I wash my face… tone my face… and then squirt THREE pumps of moisturizer into my hand along with ONE drop of the oil serum!!

When I first mixed this “serum”… should I call it a serum? I feel like a serum has some type of thickness to it… this is just an oil mixture. Anyways, serum sounds really fun.

When I first tried this recipe out, I used three drops of it on my face. I THOUGHT MY FACE WAS GOING TO BURN OFF. My eyes started watering and the skin on my face got really red. In my mind, I assumed that because there were so many other oils in the mixture PLUS it was mixed in with my moisturizer… that it was diluted enough. WRONG. Use 1 drop. That’s it. ONE. DROP. One drop is far more powerful than you are going to expect it to be.

Also, don’t I repeat do not use this serum without diluting it somehow. If you want to use a carrier oil with it instead of your moisturizer, GREAT! I chose to use my moisturizer.

After my first (three drop) experience with the oil, I was sure that this mix was all wrong. It was too strong with oregano and wasn’t going to be good. I had it in my mind that I was going to give it at least a week to see how it did on my face and then make a new trial serum. However, when I started using ONE drop instead of three drops, I started noticing a huge difference. My face was SO SMOOTH and SOFT. It was incredible. Then, after a few days, all of my acne started disappearing. My skin has responded really well to this mixture of oils.

I really should name this… perhaps I’ll name it “Pizza Face” since I was called out for smelling like pizza while wearing it. HAHA.
